The Vote

It was a century ago this year that women finally gained the right to vote in the United States.  Women won that right after decades of protest and struggle, but womens movement was not a unified one. In fact, the leaders of the movement were often deeply divided about the best ways for American women to gain voting rights and gender equality.

For this paper, watch the PBS documentary film The Vote: Part I and respond to the following questions:

Which of the leaders of the womens movement, in your opinion, had the best approach to achieve voting rights for women?  Why?
The year 2020 has been marked by numerous protests for racial, ethnic, and gender equality.  In your opinion, what lessons can protest movements in America today learn from the womens movement 100+ years ago?
