Zombie Survival Guide

-a formal survival guide that documents advice on how to survive a zombie apocalypse. In order for the text to be convincing, the recommendations must be supported with details evidencing the writer’s rationale and expertise on zombie habits and tendencies

-conduct a Google search on “zombies,” “how to survive a zombie apocalypse,” and “zombie survival guide”

Writing Requirements
-Audience: Your reader is a 55-year old tenured professor who expects writing to follow strict mechanics, basic structure, and a scientific, formal tone with all language choices.
-Pet peeves: hates first person pronouns (I, my, we, our), second person pronouns (you, your, and the implied you), and contractions (can’t, won’t, it’s).
-The text must follow APA Formatting Guidelines, including a title page, abstract, subheaders, and reference page (if outside sources are used).

-The 7 most popular topics students gravitate towards choosing are (1) weapons, (2) food and water, (3) shelter, (4) transportation, (5) clothing, (6) camping supplies, and (7) group composition. From these 7 topics, ONLY CHOOSE TWO TOPICS TO WRITE ON.

-make sure the recommendation can be accessed or achieved by majority of Americans. Ex: should not recommend a sword. Where is a person going to find a sword? A baseball bat, however, is far more accessible

-Offer a recommendation and provide reasons for it. Example: Do not just recommend canned foods. Recommend canned beans and canned tuna. Then, make sure to dig for reasons. Canned beans and canned tuna are high in protein. Dig deeper. Protein is the primary building block of muscle. Dig deeper. Maintaining physical health will better ensure survivors will have the speed to outrun zombies when necessary or the endurance to travel miles at a time on uneven terrain under a blistering sun.

-the focus of the body paragraphs must be on the recommendations. Do not detail the zombie pandemic in the body paragraphs.

-Subheaders: Indented, italicize, lowercase paragraph heading ending with a period. The paragraph begins immediately following the heading in the same line.

-Quotation with authors name in reference.
example: During a zombie apocalypse, “shelter, along with food and water, is one of the three main essentials absolutely necessary to human life” (Brockway, 2009, p. 27).
