We all use heuristics in our everyday lives and even in our jobs. Provide three concrete examples of recent work decisions (yours or your coworker’s or even your boss’s) that were biased by the three judgmental heuristics in this week’s readings. Be concrete about the decisions being made and don’t waste too many words on background info…just enough to provide context to understand the decision. It’s probably easiest to write about one decision for each of the heuristics, but it’s possible one decision will relate to multiple.

Show that you understand the psychology by explaining the source of bias in each decision. For each decision, explain why you or your boss relied on that heuristic. Explain the psychology of why the decision-maker thought this way and explain why this is a mistake. Stick to class concepts.

For each bias, how can you improve your decision process in the future (use course concepts and be realistic)? Show that you understand the psychology of heuristics and biases by using related psychology to counteract that bias. It’s not sufficient to say something like I’ll pay more attention or do more analysis next time.
