One of my biggest concerns with the way that technology is currently being used is the way that companies are collecting data about people's behavior. I feel like this is a huge invasion of privacy, and it is something that people should be made more aware of. I also think that companies should be more transparent about what they are doing with this data. I understand that they need to use it to target advertising, but I don't think that they should be allowed to do so without the person's consent. I also think that there should be an opt-out option for people who don't want their data to be collected.I take a few steps to protect my privacy by managing the way that my data is tracked. I have a privacy setting on my phone that limits the amount of information that is shared with apps. I also have a VPN (NordVPN) that I use when I am browsing the internet. I think that these are both good steps to take to protect my privacy. I prefer to use Apple-related products since they offer greater isolation of data from tele-marketers.

In my opinion, I do not mind for those websites to get my data including things like location, travel patterns, purchase histories, browsing history and so on. This is because I like having personalized ads shown to me. Most of the times, I do not even know what I want and the AI and ML model for those websites actually know what I want more than I do. I do not have any data that cannot be ‘shared’ per se therefore I do not see this as a problem. However, this is not the case for most people. A lot of people tend to feel like their privacy has been invaded because of this. Therefore, a lot of sites are actually asking for cookies permission when you visit their sites. On iPhone, it actually asks for your permission to track you across other apps and websites, using something called the identifier for advertisers (IDFA) (O'Flaherty, 2021). If you do not want your data to be tracked, you should reject all the cookies and do not allow iPhone to track your apps by selecting no when that notification pops up. I do not take any actions in preventing the tracking of my data because I personally do not mind.
