Tuberculosis

This short paper assignment will familiarize you with how healthcare professionals talk about disease burdens in a country. It also provides an opportunity for
you to practice identifying and analyzing successful interventions, which will prepare you for researching solutions to the high tuberculosis burden in garment
factory workers for your final project. Many of the factors that will support your argument can be found in these articles, but you may need to do additional
outside research to construct the most effective argument.
For this short paper assignment, analyze the impact of the tuberculosis burden in garment factory workers in Bangladesh, including an exploration of successful
intervention.
Note: If you desire, you may choose any country other than the United States for this activity, but you are encouraged to use the Bangladesh scenario.
In you short paper, include the following critical elements:
Compare the major burden of disease that you have chosen to other types of burdens. You only need a cursory overview of other burdens here;
consider that this comprises about 25% of your paper, so it should only consume about half a page or a long paragraph at most.
Assess how the major burden of disease fits into the epidemiologic transition and approximately where the country is in the transition.
Describe what the population looks like in terms of age and distribution, as well as poverty levels.
Analyze one intervention that has successfully addressed this burden of the disease in the country. What, in your opinion, made the intervention
successful?
Note: When writing this paper, you should include not just the burden of disease, but statistics that help put that burden of disease into perspective. For
example, what is the population of the country? What are poverty levels? The World Health Organization (WHO) and World Bank health division have great
examples of interventions that have been successful. Do not feel limited to peer-reviewed sources; feel free to browse and explore these other websites to find
examples of successful interventions. Other possible sources include USAID and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Global Health website.
