Social Responsibility & Controversy Complete (Draft)

Social Responsibility & Controversy Complete (Draft)

Over the course of our semester, you will write a full research paper on social responsibility and controversy. To make this process of researching and writing your paper a bit more manageable, this paper will be completed in increments. At the end of Week 15 (04/24) you will need to submit a 6-8 page final paper.

This week, you will be asked to upload your first draft of this Complete paper. Of course, this first draft may be a little rough! I will give you feedback on your work, for which you can earn up the 25 points – you will earn points for each subsection of your article drafted.

Your Complete paper should contain the following sections:

Introduction of the social problem of your choice, underlining the importance of critically analysing the multifarious (hegemonic) forces coalescing in this controversy. (1-2 pages)
Introduction of the research methodology to which you will turn to analyse the issues at play. You may choose any of the methodologies we’ve discussed in class (such as rhetorical analysis, “apocalyptic thinking,” and spatial interventions). Do make sure to research the ways in which your framework has been used by scholars in the past, as this will help inform and co-sign! your own scholarly contribution. (1-2 pages)
Explanation of the ways in which a communication studies perspective presents an apt academic framework for studying your “controversy” of choice. Make sure to root your paper within the broader contexts of our class, by explicating how your chosen topic relates to our social responsibility. (1-2 pages)
Expansive analysis of your chosen social problem, using your methodological framework to help us gain a closer understanding go the various forces and stakeholders at play. Indicate the ways in which your study helps us understand this “controversy” is a novel and meaningful way. (1-2 pages)
Persuasive conclusion, in which you tie together all of your theoretical and argumentative threads. Explicate your study’s contribution to scholarship, as well as the future directions or interventions! indicated by your conclusions. In other words, knowing what we know now, how should things change in the future? (1-2 pages)
Remember:

Work from the “Front-End” paper should be included in the final paper.
The final paper should be 6-8 double spaced pages, and should contain a minimum of 6 APA cited sources.
If you struggle finding additional sources, feel free to reach out to me via email. I am always happy to help you brainstorm!
