See instruction below

Each student is asked to write a report discussing the connection between the mechanics material topic of their choosing and the life forms that inhabit the earth.  Reports will be graded for both content and writing quality.  Students shall write at least 1,000 words, and shall include the contents listed below. Before beginning writing, please thoroughly review the technical Writing Guidelines page.

Report Contents:

Title
Introduction
Application of the topic:  Discuss how the selected mechanics of materials topic is used in 1 or 2 applications.
Impact on life forms:  Explain how life forms (e.g. humans, animals, plants etc.) are affected by the application(s) discussed earlier in the paper. This should provide a deep investigation into the impacts looking multiple levels deep and the primary impacts of the application and the secondary impacts of those impacts. Keep in mind that impacts may be positive or negative (or even neutral).

Note:  Talking about the applications of your topic is insufficient to meet the expectations of the report.  The focus of the report should be on how those applications affect life forms.  This will likely require you to use non-engineering references.  E.g. talking about cars as the application of torque, requires that you expand on all the implications of cars, e.g. city expansion, increased business productivity, travel, pollution, increased deaths etc. Impacts should be supported with evidence from cited references.
