In this essay, you will need to consider your goal to explain to reasonable people that a problem related to literacy and/or writing is real and significant, demonstrating the effects. This paper will require some research. You will need to use at least two sources. You will need to compile information and data to demonstrate what the problem is and the seriousness or ramifications of ignoring the problem. As of yet, you are not offering solutions, but you do need to keep in mind that others do not share your point of view that the problem is significant or important.

We will focus our broad topic with this question: Why is lack of writing (or lack of literacy) a problem?

You might consider literacys link to crime, problems with intergenerational literacy, literacy and employment, etc. or you may take a look at problems that affect people at an individual level, such as lack of letters, memoirs, or personal expression.

Expected length and format:  Essays should run 500-600 words; the final draft must be typed in an 11 or 12 point font like Arial or Times New Roman and be double-spaced with one inch margins on all sides. Two credible sources must be used. Only one source may be a website and a database article is required. Review the research link in our course menu.

Continue to do research (make sure you have at least one database article)
