report on the risk of mulitple breadbasket failure

QUESTIONS

The report contains many examples of the interconnections between population, diet, climate, economy, trade, food supply, and crop performance. Select one such linkage that you find interesting and describe it, based on what you read in the report. (Max 200 words)

Find one reference on page 11 of the report that is descriptive, dealing primarily with analysis of data to inform about the way things currently are (or were in the past). Name the article you have selected and briefly explain what it is about and why you have categorized it as descriptive. Do not copy text from the abstract. (Max 200 words)

Find one reference on page 11 of the report that is predictive, dealing primarily with modeling and the creation of future projections or scenarios. Name the article you have selected and briefly explain what it is about and why you have categorized it as descriptive. Do not copy text from the abstract. (Max 200 words)

Special instructions for Questions 2 and 3.

For these questions, be sure to refer to page 11 of the report (the page labeled 11, not the 11th page of the PDF). In order to answer the questions, you will need to:

Evaluate references in the context of the report
Look up references in the reference list at the end of the report
Find and access references online using the UW Libraries, Google Scholar, or similar
Once you have accessed a reference of interest, you should be able to gather the necessary information by reading the abstract and skimming other sections. It is not necessary to read entire articles, and you do not need to fully understand the articles’ subject matter in order to respond.

Hint: focus on traditional peer-reviewed journal articles rather than books and other reports, as the latter tend to be longer with differing structures that can be more difficult to digest.

Hint: not every reference can be neatly categorized – search for those that are clear, skip over those where you aren’t sure.
