Philosophy of Education Assignment (EDFN 210 Common Assessment)

You will submit a paper that articulates your emerging philosophy of education. This common assessment will contain all of the following components:

Introduction of a Philosophy of Education: You will provide a detailed overview of the salient tenets of an emerging philosophy of education. Your narrative will also provide information about the importance of an emerging philosophy of education for teacher candidates. The introduction will be a minimum of one page with appropriate in-text citations.

Description of Five Philosophies of Education: You will provide a detailed overview of each of the following philosophies coupled with an original example from your experience:
Essentialism
Perennialism
Progressivism
Social Reconstructionism
Existentialism
*** Each description will be a minimum of one-half page with appropriate in-text citations. (Minimum Total Pages for this section = 2.5)

Philosophies of Education Inventory: You will complete the 28-question inventory (see questions below) and calculate your level of agreement with each educational philosophy. You will create and insert a table in your paper that reports your obtained scores as well as a ranking of your agreement with each educational philosophy. Your table will rank-order the educational philosophies from strongest to weakest agreement, and will also identify any tied rankings among the philosophies (see example below).

Reflection on Education Inventory: You will provide a detailed reflection which (a) discusses your rank-ordering of the five philosophies of education from the Inventory; (b) discusses your educational philosophy (e.g., is it teacher-centered or student-centered?; do you subscribe to one philosophy or multiple?); (c) discusses the implications of your preferences for how you believe that schools should be run and what students should be taught including what should be included in the curriculum; (d) discusses your awareness of the importance of establishing strong collaboration with families and the multiple diversities (e.g., learning styles, English language learning, exceptionalities, cultural differences) of your students and families; and (e) discusses what you learned about yourself from this inventory.
