Panic and human behavior

Researchers’ have highlighted behavioral science in the fire service and related fields more recently it seems than before. The focus seems to be, why do people react a certain way in certain situations? According to Gantt and Gantt (2008), “this article seeks to bridge the gap between the behavioral science community and safety professionals, particularly related to supposed panic behaviors in disasters and emergencies (p. 21). Many have discussed and attempted to define the word (Panic). Research by Fahy and Proulx (2009) states that “the media is a great fan of the panic concept.” As we know the media has great impact on how society views certain topics, but as it relates to human behavior… (1). What does the term “panic” mean to you? (2). Can it be described/explained? (3). Can you see panic? (4). Can you feel panic? Or is the term panic just used to describe a broad behavior that is seen in people during emergency situations?
