pamphlet and essay- psychology of religion and spirituality

pamphlet 400 words  and essay 1800 words

An assignment in two parts (though assessed as a single item). This assignment will be discussed in class towards the start of the second semester, and again towards the end of the semester, closer to the deadline. Additionally, a forum is available to ask for help & support of staff and fellow students.

In this assignment, you are (a) tasked with designing a pamphlet that informs or advises the public about any one aspect of the psychology of religion, spirituality and well-being. You will also (b) write an essay which presents an academic rationale and defence of the pamphlet.

Choosing the right topic will be crucial in this assignment. There are two chief considerations:

(1)    Is the topic relevant to the subject of the psychology of religion? It can be on any area of interest within this broad field and does not even have to be one of the areas of psychology of religion that we feature in the second semester this is after all a much broader field that can be done justice to in just a few months.

(2)    Who is the target audience? You are strongly advised to have a specific target audience in mind, not just the public the more specific and focused, the easier it will be for you to tailor your message for the audience.

For the pamphlet itself, you will need to write in a publicly-accessible manner and give some consideration to the design & layout of your pamphlet. You should consider the educational level of your intended audience and adopt suitable language for that audience. The pamphlet should definitely not just be text – images etc should be used as well. The format is a standard tri-fold format like you see in many places – you can use any software you like for this assignment, but please submit a PDF document to Turnitin for assessment, regardless of the package you used to design the pamphlet. MS Word & MS Publisher are two common choices for this sort of task.

The essay is a standard academic essay, which of course must be written to a standard appropriate for a level 6 undergraduate student. The essay will present a rationale for the choice of topic in pamphlet (salience, importance, contemporary relevance etc), and ground the advice from the pamphlet in a critically informed reading of a relevant body of literature. This should at least in part address literature from the field of the psychology of religion. Your essay will be professionally presented and adhere to APA standards throughout, in style, formatting, structure and referencing & citations. This assignment brief must be included at the start of your essay.

There will be two submission points on NILE for this assignment both will be Turnitin links. Your comments, grade and rubric scores will only be returned on one of those two (though obviously your marker will have looked at both elements of the assignment).
