Explain how you approached each step, what you considered, and any conclusions you made. You can number the steps when referring to how you approached each one.

Decision-making Steps:
1. Identify the decision needed and by when
2. Gather information prioritize next steps
3. Evaluate alternative courses of action and ethical considerations
4. What is at stake? What is the risk?
5. Who will be impacted? How will they be affected?
6. Choose a plan of action based on chosen alternative
7. Enact your plan
8. Assess the results

Scenario
You are mentoring a younger enlisted service member. He/she is promotable and is getting ready to transfer to a new duty station. You and your mentee, however, have learned that your mentee’s Non-commissioned Officer in charge (NCOIC) at the new duty station is somewhat, to put it mildly, “difficult to work with.”

Using the problem-solving steps, what kind of plan would you suggest your mentee use to manage this situation and get the earliest promotion possible?
