This assignment will meet the Global Citizenship & Equity (GCE) skills requirements. There are 6 institutional GCE outcomes, of those 6 outcomes, the following will be assessed in this course:
GCE OUTCOMES

Identify one’s roles and responsibilities as a global citizen in personal and professional life.
Analyze the use of the world’s resources to achieve sustainability and equitable distribution at the personal, professional, and global level.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were developed by the United Nations with 193 countries as signatories to work towards achieving these goals by the year 2030. These goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity (UNDP, 2016)

Businesses across sectors are integral to the achievement of the SDGs. Through corporate social responsibility (CSR), community impact projects and socially responsible investment initiatives, businesses are providing unique solutions to social and environmental problems.

According to a recent report from Aflac on Corporate Social Responsibility, it finds that 77% of consumers say they would be more willing to purchase a companys products or services if the company demonstrates a commitment to addressing social, economic and environmental issues; 73% of investors agreed.

This consumer trend of demanding businesses to be more socially responsible is driven in large part to a global social awakening about the environment and the equitable treatment of people and communities. This has a large connection to Global Citizenship Education, which is an integral component of your education at Centennial, and aims to provide you with the skills to assume an active role, both locally and globally, in building more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure societies.
