Federal Government 1946-1964

I just need this paragraph rewrote, words changed, and switched around.

The civil right act of 1964 marked an end to the segregation practices in public spaces and discrimination in employment opportunists based on color, sex, race, or religion. This new legislative order was not just hard to make it on paper but even harder to apply in the diverse conditions of the United States where hatred and prejudices were rose against the people who were slaved yesterday and now become equal to their former masters. The government who faced stiff opposition to pass the law now has to play a greater role to protect the blacks and their participation.

The original question for the paragraph is;  How did the federal governments role in Americans lives change between 1946-1964?
