ExtraInstructions.docx

Instructions:

Follow the step-by-step process to produce a final product.  Read through the instructions carefully.

Step 1.

You will need to make annotations on these articles/film, located in the “required readings for this module” folder:

· Conferring Resistance to Digital Disinformation 16

· The cultural wantons of the new millennium 12

· Rumor detection on social media 14

· Social media reduce users’ moral sensitivity 9

· Peer Pressure and social dilemma 5

· The Social Network 4

· Social Media and Facebook News Article 3

· In social media we trust (not to be used as an article choice, but you can quote from this one)

· What explains our weakness for fake news (not to be used as an article choice; use for connections section to understand the terms)

· The Social Dilemma (Netflix) (make notes; annotation worksheet included)

· One article from the library database (annotated bibliography)

***Please use the worksheet for the annotations!!!  I cannot stress this enough. It will simplify this task.

Step 2.

The tasks.

Divide up the six tasks among team members (each person must have a different task and you must have a different task from module 3 and module 4—a completely new task).  For instance, if you worked on task 2 for Module 3 and task 5 for Module 4, then you cannot choose task 2 or task 5 to do again. I am keeping track. Depending on the number of team members, not all tasks will be completed. Again, you will pick only one task to complete.  You, alone, will be responsible for your work.  It must be original. Plagiarizing this assignment will result in failure of the assignment or failure of the course (see university policy in the syllabus).

Post your task choice on the group discussion board.

Optional: Brainstorm about each article in a collaboration session before you begin—While this is optional, it will help to voice your thoughts on this topic.

Step 3.

For this essay assignment, pick one article (8+ pages), one shorter article or web article (below 8 pages), the article from the annotated bibliography assignment, and the film.

You will have only 4 entries for your task.

I recommend you review all the articles before you make your decision.  Think about how they will work together for the Connections sections (or won’t).

At this point feel free to include other quotes from the past two modules—just include the correct citation on the Works Cited page.

· Make sure to not use 1st/2nd personal pronouns in the task section.  You can use 1st in the Connections section, but use sparingly.

Using the chart (image):  How do I work on the paragraphs for each section using this chart? This one is tricky because you can format it in several ways.  It can be a few sentences per point but remember you have to validate your claim with evidence, so it might be longer than you are thinking.  You can also join some together depending on how you answer them.  The hardest part will be stating your ideas without using the first-person pronoun.  Change it to "a reader understands why…"  or a person, or the intended audience (when using this phrase, make sure to state who is the intended audience).  So if you start a sentence, "I believe that Vogler …"  change it to "Vogler …"  Just delete the "I believe" part of the sentence.

· Use an original title for the beginning of the essay. All other subtitles will stay the same and are not highlighted.

· Date formatting

· No extra white space–everything is DS.

· Must have images in task section and correctly labelled.

Film annotation worksheet

NOTES:  The film needs to be included in the essay portion.  While I do not want to see the worksheet in the final essay, hold onto this.

***Use the director in place of the author.

***Substitute "film" for "article" in the bullets on the instructions.

***Quotes from the film–these can be looked up or even paraphrased.
