The company that was chosen to be discussed is Target. This is a company that is well known throughout North America for its promise of sustainability. Out of the thirteen different methods for contemporary management, sustainability had stood out. Sustainability is one of the methods that focuses on a businesses process improvement. The textbook states sustainability can be accomplished through technological innovation and new product development as well as commonsense measures to improve the social and environmental impacts of the companys operations (Blocher, E. J., Juras, P. E., & Smith, S. D. 2022. p 19). Target has been committed to eliminating the amount of waste it creates each year and creating and carrying as much sustainable products it can. One article on sustainability and reporting states, businesses can provide corporate sustainability by developing strategies and approaches to reduce damage to the environment during the manufacturing process (Caliyurt, K. T. 2020;2019). Target has actively been working on its manufacturing processes to reduce waste. More companies over the years have shifted their focus to the environment and creating a more ecofriendly way of operating. It has even been more of an expectation than encouraged factor for companies to be a part of. In recent years sustainability reporting on companies have become more prevalent. Authors Hamilton, S. N. and Waters, R. D. discuss in their article that sustainability reporting that is based on environmental, social, and governance metrics results in an evaluation process of measuring the impact of investments and business activities beyond the monetary value continues to gain traction (Sustainability. 2022). These reports are taken on companies all over the United States and are to help said companies to be transparent with its consumers. This transparency and continuous improvement on a companys process will help to achieve critical success factors that a company is striving for. Sustainability within a company is not only great for the environment, but it will help with a corporations goals. Author and Professor Christopher G Beehner discussed it best in his book on sustainability and success. By becoming environmentally friendly, companies can cut down on costs, continuously be innovating, and have a competitive advantage (Beehner, C. G.). Each of these factors have a major impact on the success of a company beyond helping the environment. The Bible has been clear from the beginning that mankind is to care for the Earth. In Genesis 1:26 it discusses how the Lord has created man in his image and for man to govern over everything on Earth, from the sea to the sky and more (ESV). Mankind is to rule over everything and is therefore to care for the Earth as well. Corporations have a major impact on the environment and must take action to have a positive impact, which starts with sustainability.
