Fourth:
In addition to the actual debate preparation and participation on the day, your group will be submitting a 1,200 word essay on why you think your team should win after the debate is concluded, by the deadine as stated (midnight London time).
The amount of words used should be stated at the front page.
Only one report to be submitted per group. This should be submitted through MyCourses.

Fifth:
Marks will be awarded based on the selection of your arguments for the purpose of your main Idea and the content of your rebuttal from the opposition.
Although generally the entire group will be awarded the same marks, some speakers may incur more marks than others from the same team for reasons of exceptional idea presentation and rebuttals.
The debate activity will be complimented by your 1,200 word group essay on why your group should be the winners.

Sixth:
The faculty member presiding over the debate will make the assessments on the debate proceedings and presentation.
This will then be passed to the professor of the subject to be reviewed and finalised.
25% will be dedicated to the debate activity itself, another 5% will be awarded based on the group essay.
As the presentation at the debate carries most of this assignment’s weight, each group member is asked to participate and marks may differ based on each individual participation.

Tip: The success behind the debate in the classroom is not in winning and losing but rather how well teams prepared for and delivered their arguments and get potential sway-in from those who initially may have had the opposite point-of view. The debate process will be reviewed and clarifications on the points that were presented on day of the debate will be discussed with the group of students as a class in the coming week.
