Clues to societies

Identify clues to the society
Now that you’ve identified main characteristics of a hero (or the opposite for a villain), what other clues to the society can you identify from the same two stories? What religion is promoted or at least discussed? What are the views about and roles for women? Are there classes? What kind of government is described? What kinds of things do they eat or wear or do for fun?

Assignment directions
1. Re-read the same TWO sources as for the last assignment. You must use the versions and editions below. Identify the three important characteristics of the society: religion, government, class, gender, or something else, that you discovered from the stories. Don’t pick the same things as for the prior assignment.

2. Present those three characteristics with specific supporting details from the story.

3. You can organize your comparison either by discussing first one story and society and then the other or going back and forth if that makes more sense. For example, if one society practices one religion or has one form of government and the other society has a different one.

Use only the information from the two sources below you chose (and the Lecture Notes and plot summaries in the unit if needed). I want your analysis, not something you found on the Internet on the subject.  Work alone. If there is an editor’s introduction, you can read it along with the plot summaries provided in the unit, but your analysis should be your own and based entirely on the actual story.

2-3 pages, 12 point font, 1 inch margin all around, double-space. You don’t need a title page or Works Cited since you are only discussing the two sources which you will identify in the first paragraph or as soon as you start discussing them. Use proper American English spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and paragraphs.
