Introduction

This activity requires you to participate in an in-depth discussion with your classmates which will provide the opportunity to exchange ideas as they pertain to the learning material. You are encouraged to discuss issues at your place of employment or other experiences. Read the learning material before posting your initial response.

Discussion Point

We have learned how BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color), members of the LGBT community, and others have been marginalized in the workplace and society. We also learned more about the “great resignation” and its impact on organizational diversity. Recently there is a push encouraging employees to bring their “authentic” selves to work. However, in light of the disparate treatment of BIPOC and members of the LGBT community in the workplace, employees may be reluctant to be authentic in the work environment due to fear of being “labeled” or being excluded.

The Gartner Inclusion Index is a method used to measure inclusion within organizations.  The seven dimensions of inclusion identified by the Index include “fair treatment, integrating differences, decision-making, psychological safety, trust, belonging, and diversity” (Romansky, Garrod, Brown & Deo, 2021).

Discussion Questions

Do you think LGBT employees will be treated disparately if they bring their “authentic” selves to work? Explain in detail and provide an example.
Do you think that members of the BIPOC LGBT community experience access and treatment discrimination moreso than non-BIPOC LGBT community members? Explain in detail and provide an example.
How will employees being “authentic” in the workplace impact organizational diversity and inclusion?
Explain how The Gartner Inclusion Index can help employers create and manage inclusive work environments where LGBT employees feel that they “belong?”

Initial Post.  By Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. CST, write a 100- word initial post responding to the question (feel free to write longer posts).

Secondary Posts. By Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. CST, write a 50-word substantial response post to two of your peers’ initial posts (two postings) Feel free to write longer posts.

Elaborate in detail and provide examples
Incorporate two sources from the learning material (textbook) in your response, correctly cited in APA 7th edition format to support your position or statements. Feel free to add supplemental material and other sources as well. However, the textbook sources are required.
Postings must contain original thoughts, demonstrate critical thinking, logic, analytical and reasoning skills and ethics.
Relate new information with material covered in class as well as experiences.
Respond in your own words, elaborate in detail and provide examples.
Do not post quoted material on Discussion Boards.
Do not post attachments on Discussion Boards.
