Respond to a & b Or a & c:

a)  How does the Khader article help you understand the “fairy tale” story of the Wizards (“…history that could not be found in textbooks…), and why Tambu’s family became poor after the British came to their country, and the steps taken by their grandmother to help her family?

Why is Tambu’s impression of Babamukuru’s living conditions, when she first arrives at the mission, important?

b) What does Tambu mean when she claims that by “…condemning Nyasha to whoredom…” Babamukuru was “…making her a victim of her femaleness…” in the same way she was victimized by staying at home while Nhamo went to school? (p. 118)? Why do you think Babamukuru reacts to Nyasha the way he does?

OR

c) What does Nyasha say on p.150 that helps us understand why she suffers from bulimia? What does Tambu mean when she imagines that her mother suffers from “…being female and poor and uneducated and black…” (p.91) why does she use the word, “black,” instead of “African?”
