The United States played a large role in World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War. Those wars changed American society and culture in dramatic ways, and changed forever the lives of the men who fought in them and survived. Many people argue that the Vietnam War was vastly different than the two world wars. What do you think? Was the Vietnam War very different from the first two world wars? I want you to think about objectives, foreign policy and ideology, the enemy, the terrain, the ways in which America became involved in war, and anything else that you find supports or does not support the idea that Vietnam was a very different war or not. Write a paper defending your argument, using videos I posted on D2L about WWI, WWII, and Vietnam (especially the Ken Burns’ videos) and Philip Caputo’s A Rumor of War. Be sure to cite evidence — and cite it correctly — to back up your claims.
