Addictive Thinking

During this semester, we have discussed various psychological elements of those struggling with addiction. We have also focused on some aspects of treatment for those trying to break from their addictions. Using, Dr. Twerskis Addictive Thinking book as a guide, the class evaluated, explored, and discussed various aspects of active addiction and recovery. We also had the special opportunity to hear from a recovering addict, his story ,emphasizing the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of the struggles of addiction and the dedication, work and benefits of recovery.

In your paper, you will create three characters who are in some stage of their addiction/recovery. Each student will describe their characters addictive thinking pattern and damaging behaviors. Each character will be named, and possess different and distinguishable thought patterns and a description of their unproductive behaviors. A rock bottom or realization for each character should be described along with a brief description of their recovery path. In the characters recovery phase, describe the struggle not to relapse and a relapse prevention technique employed by the character. Any positive changes should also be noted, i.e. improvement on the job, better family situation etc
